Now here’s a cool idea: gather a group of restaurants and promote the same wine features at each of them in a restaurant week for wine. Call it Taste Around Town and spread the word. Such an event is happening from Monday, March 24, through Sunday, April 6, in Denver, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Bottlenotes is organizing the event, which is coming to other U.S. cities later this year.
The Denver Launch Party was held at 1515 Restaurant on Wednesday, March 19. Owner Gene Tang opened his doors to wine and food lovers to sample his wonderful cuisine, paired with wines from Anna de Codorniu, Bodega Trivento Argentina, and Rhône Valley Wines.
The wines were good, but the pairings with 1515 Restaurant’s cuisine were the real star of the night. Among them:
Anna de Codorniu Brut Cava with Petite Crab Cake Truffle Slider
Anna de Codorniu Brut Cava with Oyster Shooter in Cucumber Water and Salmon Mousse Eclair
Anna de Codorniu Brut paired with Petite Crab Cake Truffle Slider, Oyster Shooter with Cucumber Water, and Salmon Mouse Éclair. The Brut Cava was on the sweeter side, but its acidity was a good fit with the gifts from the river and sea.
1515 Restaurant owner Gene Tang prepares Kobe Beef on a 500-degree stone
Trivento Amado Sur Malbec, Bonarda, Syrah 2011 paired with Ceviche and Kobe Beef. This softer, easy-drinking wine was a nice complement to the bright flavors in the shrimp cerviche. It paired especially well with the buttery texture of Kobe beef cooked tableside on a 500-degree stone.
Bodega Trivento Argentina Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 Reserve paired with a Chocolate-Coconut-Caramel Truffle. It was hard to beat the way the richness of the wine paired with the decadence of the melt-in-your-mouth dessert!
