Colorado Wine Tasting: Hermosa Merlot 2006

Image

When the cork was pulled on Hermosa Vineyards Merlot 2006, the fragrance of fresh blueberries greeted the tasters. The ruby-red wine was a little hot on the first taste, so we set it aside for a few minutes. Coming back to it, different flavors were ascendant as it opened up in the glass: hints of tree sap, cherries, asphalt, leather, and beefsteak tomato.

This wine paired well with baked pork chops, roasted Brussels sprouts, and dark chocolate. It was a nice complement to the flavors of the food, and would stand up well to a variety of roasted meats.

Hermosa Vineyards is a small, sustainable winery located in Colorado’s Grand Valley. Look for Hermosa wines in your local wine shop, and add it to your list of wineries to visit in Colorado Wine Country.

Until our next adventure in wine and food…
