It can be easy to overlook hotel restaurants, thinking of them as a place to eat room service food in a dining room, where attire beyond hotel bathrobes is required and there is not a TV in sight. This is not the case with Zink Bar + Grill, which is located adjacent to the DoubleTree Hotel in the Denver Tech Center. Recently we stopped for dinner, and were pleased to enjoy a delicious meal, with TVs only a few feet away at the bar.
Taste Around Town, a restaurant week for wine, brought us to Zink. We began our evening with Rhône wines, M. Chapoutier Belleruche Côtes-du-Rhône Blanc 2012, and M. Chapoutier Belleruche Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge 2012. The white wine was smooth and balanced, with notes of green apple, peach, and pineapple. The red wine was equally smooth, with ample red fruit and black pepper.
To start:
* Vegetable Samosas with Peas, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, and Chiles, with Coriander Riata. Savory and delicious, and fulfilled the appetizer’s mission or making diners interested in food prior to the arrival of the entrées. The samosas paired well with the white Rhône wine, offering a subtle complement.
* Greek Egg Rolls with Rocky Mountain Lamb, Wilted Spinach, Feta, and Green Olive Tapenade, and served with Tzatziki. This is Zink’s answer to Chili’s Southwest Egg Rolls. Quite tasty. They paired well with either the white or red wine.
Entrées:
Toasted Coconut Kale Salad with Quinoa, Mangos, Sweet Potatoes, Almonds, Frisee, and Cilantro Lime Dressing, topped with Arctic Char. This salad was chock-full of tasty for continued good health.
Spanish Paella with Andouille, Mussels, White Shrimp, Saffron, Peas, and Rice. Two in our group opted for this traditional dish, and were very pleased. It paired nicely with both the white and red wines.
Barbeque Pork Spare Ribs with Smoked Corn & Baked Beans Stuffed Potato. This just sounds good.
A wonderful meal, with four happy and well-tippled diners, and a Taste Around Town to boot.
