One of the first things you may notice is that Ridge Street Kitchen is not located on Ridge Street, but on South Main Street, near Washington Avenue. Fortunately, the geographic misnomer only adds to the intrigue. Walk the few steps below street level and into a cozy space that incorporates a bustling kitchen, deli cases filled with freshly made salads and entrees, and a dining room with a chef’s table that looks into the kitchen. If you’re lucky, the chef might give you a taste of fresh cookie dough or another fantastic morsel to sample.
Order the daily special (which often sells out before noon) or choose a plate of items from the case. Everything is delicious. Overheard at one of the tables: “This is the best food I’ve had since moving to Colorado.”
Our lunch included Kale & Brussels Sprouts Salad with grape tomatoes and a lemon vinaigrette; Chicken & Smoked Corn Salsa, and an exceptional Pulled Pork Sandwich with sliced avocado and red onion. The sandwich was hot and hearty with richly layered textures that offered savoy tastes with every bite. And then there are the homemade potato chips!
Proprietor Kelly Brenholt is a private chef in Breckenridge. She graduated with a diploma in Cuisine and Pastry after attending Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School in Canada and London. Brenholt and her team at Ridge Street Kitchen offer seasonal menus that can be customized to suit any group, from intimate dinner parties to casual gatherings for a few dozen.
