The Breckenridge Bucks: A great start to the holiday season with good hockey, good food, good wine, and good beer

The Breckenridge Bucks fourth home game series saw the team face off against the Colorado Thunderbirds at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. The Bucks kicked off the holiday season with winning hockey on the ice and winning food, wine, and beer at the bar and concession stand.

The Thanksgiving Weekend series celebrated the opening of Ski Season by offering $5.00 admission to anyone who presented a ski pass. The crowd came out in force, many of them donning shiny new ski jackets, hats, and gloves, in anticipation of hitting the slopes. They ate Cajun fare, beef chili, pizza, and pulled pork sliders, and washed them down with Vintner’s Blend, Merlot, and Chardonnay from Two Rivers Winery, and Belgian Pale Ale and Avalanche Ale from Breckenridge Brewery.

The Bucks’ concessionaire partner is Whole Foods Market in Frisco, which offered healthy hot and cold foods, snacks, and hot chocolate. Downstairs at Eric’s donated cheese and pepperoni pizzas.

In addition to its partners, the Bucks have a Featured Restaurant and Featured Colorado Winery program. Each home game weekend there is an “Orange Plate Special” (Blue Plate Special) from a local restaurant and a selection of wines in celebration of Colorado food and wine.

The Featured Restaurant was The Lost Cajun, with locations in Breckenridge, Frisco, and throughout Colorado. Over both game days the restaurant serviced chicken and sausage gumbo, and red beans and rice. The Featured Winery was Two Rivers Winery, located in Grand Junction. Bucks’ sponsor Breckenridge Brewery provided the beer. By the end of the weekend, the taps had run dry and even extra bottles of Two Rivers Merlot sold out.

Feeling cold? Fans warmed up with hot chocolate topped with marshmallows and whipped cream  from Whole Foods Market in Frisco, and Breckenridge Blend, a proprietary blend of Starbucks Coffee from the store on Main Street in Breckenridge – one of only two proprietary blends in the country.
